Welcome all. Welcome newcomers

  • Thanks to Hong Li (data scientist rolling off Smart City project but joining TWG to remain engaged), Shawn Hooton (experienced application developer and data professional with Elastic and experience at Hortonworks), Joel Gerber (application developer and product management professional with Adheris Health), and Austin Kucera (software Artisan at Pillar)
  • Github and Slack seem to be working, as measured by progress and momentum on those channels.

Review of Deliverables

  • All agreed that the six deliverables shall be produced by this team in the manner described on the Wiki. Specifically, there will be three milestones, each milestone comprising two of the six deliverables.
    • Milestone 1: Nov 15
      • List or risks and downsides related to Open Source. with potential ways to mitigate those risks
      • Identify model organizations that do open source well
    • Milestone 2: Dec 13
      • Identify a process for code commit, core team membership, release pipeline
      • Recommendation on how to engage and manage the community
    • Milestone 3: Jan 24
      • Recommendation on open source licenses to suit the target state of the OS
      • Suggestions for how to grow the community of contributors

Milestone 1 Deliverable

  • Bill Schwanitz agreed to lead the first deliverable. Bill will start developing the material on Github based on what's in Slack channels, git, and elsewhere. All members will collaborate using Bill's draft.

Milestone 2 Deliverable

  • Need to identify a member to lead the 2nd milestone's deliverable.
    • Chris McClellan agreed to start work on (i) processes around reviewing Pull requests; and (ii) guide to contributing.
    • Dean Allemang agreed to contribute also, with special attention to managing metadata. Dean and Chris will meet offline and report back to the group.

  • Join next call. Use slack and github in the meantime for ideas, questions, blockers

  • (tammy): The monthly checkin meetings are with the TWG Policy group, Jodie Bare, Ben Blanquera. The meetings include an opportunity to get their feedback. Updates to and from USDOT will happen through product demos. We will share our draft during the Nov 15 meeting.
