HOWTO publish Playtest & Release (Windows) versions on Desura

NOTES ABOUT DESURA

• Where are games installed?

Games that you'll install with Desura will be located in your _~\Desura\Common_ folder. If you didn't change the default Desura installation folder, it should still be in _C:\Program Files (x86)\Desura\Common_.

If you own a SSD drive, it might be a good idea to install Desura elsewhere, otherwise it will store downloaded (and installed) games in the path mentionned above. Games can take a lot of space and with the Desura's automatic update system, game files might be updated several times: bad for your SSD's lifetime.

• Now how to customize your Desura cache folder?

It could be interesting to modify the location of your Desura cache folder if you own a SSD drive (same reason as described above) especially if you plan to upload new versions of your game(s) on Desura. For some strange reason, when you create MCF file, Desura stores it in C:\ProgramData\Desura\DesuraApp\cache\mcf\games (even if you installed Desura elsewhere). It seems it's still not currently possible to customize this path during the Desura installation.

STEPS TO CREATE AND PUBLISH A MCF FILE

• A. Install the latest Playtest somewhere in a new folder
• B. Launch your Desura client
• C. Browse to this page: http://www.desura.com/games/publish/openra/execute.

To do so, click on the link named "Upload", under RELEASES (top left) and then, you should see this page:

• D. Now to generate a valid MCF file, at the bottom right, click on create.

• E. When it is finished, click on the CANCEL button (DON'T CLICK ON UPLOAD!!). For an update, it is normal that the file is about 2 MB, Desura only uploads differences.

• F. Now back to the main page, click on upload to submit the MCF file. Note that Desura will show the default path of the cache folder:

• G. Refresh the page

• H. On the new page, select Playtest Windows or Release Windows Installer (depending on what you want to upload, of course).

• I. Dont' forget to type the version and paste the changelog:
