Overview

The implementation of this feature was to add juicy design elements, sound effects,to the combat items. of this weapon was based off the idea of creating a new projectile weapon within the game.

Background Research

  • In order to complete a juicy game design, we should incorporate sound animations
    • Provides more depth to the game and allows for users to experience to be more immersive
  • Way to implement refinement within the game of the sounds can be broken down into the following sounds that need to be created:
    1. Melee sword sound → Metal Sword Sound
      • Trident
      • Dagger
      • Sword
    2. Plunger sound (Just use mouth to make a pop sound) -
      • Plunger
    3. Ranged plunger bow (Sounds already created)
      • Golden/ regular plunger bow

Inspiration

From these inspirations, we were inspired to create the following design inspiration.

Sound guideline to be followed:

  1. Melee Weapons
    • Creation can be done through smacking two metal items together or two knives together
  2. Plunger sound
    • Plunger sound can be made with using mouth sounds to make a pop sound
  3. Download Bow Sound
    • Bow sounds can be made using a ruler bending to attain plucking string
  • Files need to be recorded using voice recorder and convert the files to wav file to be completed before passing it to programming team

Prototypes

From the guidelines we were able to create prototypes, that would be later iterated upon from user testing. To view the sounds that were used in the prototype please refer to the following google drive link: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1ft5VzvY5fbzzsDzdxTTqkxnr-Z5Dzhoj?usp=sharing

User Testing plan/results

The user testing plan, results and changes can be found here: https://github.com/UQdeco2800/2022-studio-2/wiki/Sprint-4-User-Testing

Future direction

Due to the ,limitation of resources it was no possible for us to use professional equipment to record the sounds. The quality of the sound was a topic users commented on. The next direction this feature could go is producing higher-quality sounds. This would create a more positive experience for the player, hence better 'juicy' design elements in the game.
