Torch Design
In keeping with the dungeon aesthetic of the second level, it was decided that torches would be incorporated as map elements.

Design Iterations
Flame Style Experimentation
Experimenting with different flame styles and different brush strokes was a beneficial activity, as it allowed for the design of the flame of the torch.

Iteration 2
Iteration 3
User Testing/Feedback
In order to gain feedback and build upon this design element, user testing was undertaken to gain feedback on the map elements so far. The feedback session for the torch element was planned and undertaken as follows:
Testing Plan: Testing Method: Short Interview
- Explain the concept of the game and the component to the user.
- Show the design to the user.
- Explain the design feature and its role within the story of the game.
- Record feedback and iterate based on this.
User Tests Notes and Observations:
User 1 Feedback:
"The handle of the torch looks too 2D"
User 2 Feedback:
"I think the flames need to be more dynamic" "It would look really cool if you animated the flames"
User 3 Feedback:
"A smaller pixel size would look good I reckon"
User Test Reflection:
On reflection, it was established that the general sentiment of the testing group was that the torch should have more detail. It was also noted that animation would be a beneficial addition to this particular element.
Final Iteration
After design iteration and user testing, the final iteration was developed, incorporating design elements and ideas gained after conducting user interviews.
Further Implementation
In future implementations of the torch, it would be beneficial to incorporate animation into the design - as was established during user testing. This would create a more dynamic feel and add an extra layer of detail to this level of the game - leading to an overall enhanced gaming experience.
