User Testing Analysis

User Testing for this task was specifically focused on Item Representation and Art Style

Questions which I wanted to ask the users were

  1. Does the characters look like NPCs?
  2. Is the Art Style Consistent?
  3. Is the Art Style of Quality

The survey consisted of four linear scale questions, three short answer questions and one long answer question For the 1st Question, I made 3 different ones for the 3 different NPCs in this structure Structure of User Testing

For the 2nd and 3rd Question, these are the survey queries

User Testing Data Analysis

Data Analysis 1: Item Representation

Results: The Child and Female NPCs have shown to have appearances highly like an NPC. With 71.4% of the participants giving it a (5/5 Very NPC looking). Additionally 28.6% remaining giving it a 4/5 on the NPC appearance scale. The reasoning behind this stated the Child and Female NPCs has a minimalist approach which they believed was a strong aspect of NPC design. The Guard NPC have shown to have appearances moderately like an NPC. With a mode of 57.1%, Most participants gave the NPC a 3/5 on the NPC appearance scale. The reasoning behind this stated the Guard NPC had a weapon which made him look more than an NPC, a participant stated it looked more like an enemy than an NPC.

Analysis: The main rationale behind the high NPC rating from Child and Female NPCs like appearance was due to the simple design. This was not the case for the Guard NPC as it had a lot of details behind the character design.

Future Work: To improve for next sprint, I suggest removing a few aspects of the NPC Guard to ensure the character does represent a NPC.

Data Analysis 2: Art Style (Consistency, Quality)

Results: Firstly, The common feedback given towards the consistency was that it does look consistent with the 3 NPCs because it has the same colour palette and same design basis. Secondly, 57.1% gave the Art Style a 5/5 and 42.9% gave the Art Style a 4/5.

Analysis: These results were based off values with the aesthetics of the NPC design such as the body proportions and colour schemes. The colour palette of the NPCs gave a consistent look towards them. Additionally, The Art Style quality has room for improvement since there were still some that showed signs of weakness with the quality.

Future Work: A touch up on the Art Style is needed to ensure more of a 5/5 Quality result and In the future NPC designs it is important to achieve the same colour palettes which indicates a theme.
