User Testing

Survey

Using the various versions of the materials above, they were collated into the survey and user testing was carried out with fellow peers of the studio - https://forms.gle/DTccoNDEvoi53oFp7. The purpose of this user test was to get a general opinion on the current pause screen design, as well as any suggestions for improvements for future implementation.

The first question was to gauge an overall impression on the most basic design of the pause screen versions:

The next two questions were regarding more specific and actionable feedback regarding the screen, both positive and negative to really attain a good understanding of what elements worked and/or didn't work in this design.

The final question revealed the other two designs as inspiration for one more question - any general suggestions for improvement:

From the first question, initial feedback was generally positive - the integration to greek theme, simplistic design, and overall design were widely accepted and therefore will remain in future design iterations. Suggestions for improvement were closely linked to negative feedback, which included colour/text changes, more unique design elements and overall better integration with the plumber aspect. With these suggestions in mind a final design for this sprint was created:

Changes

  • Text was adjusted
  • Gold vines were added across the top to better reflect the first level's theme
  • Plunger and water added in represent the plumber theme
  • Player model sits on the exit button for aesthetic and further integration with the game's theme
