User Testing

Survey

Similarly to the previous sprint, various versions of the two materials (poop and toilet paper) were created and collated in a survey that was shared with studio members. The survey link is below:

The purpose of this user test was to evaluate users' opinions on what an 'ultimate' crafting item would look like conceptually in the game. These materials are slightly special compared to the previous ones - the reason being they are used to create the most powerful weapons in the game. Furthermore, other questions were structured to gather opinions on the various versions of poop and toilet paper that was created.

The first question (seen below) was intended to understand what users see as an 'ultimate' crafting material (note that apart from the materials that were created to represent the different options, there was an 'other' option present for users to suggest their own):

Ultimate Material Preference

One major assumption that was made prior to user testing was that users would strongly prefer poop as the ultimate crafting material. To prevent over saturation of surveys populating the discord server the ultimate material question was put in the same survey as the preference of poop and toilet paper. Had this assumption been wrong, then the work completed on poop design iterations would have been useless, so thankfully our assumption was correct.

An overwhelming 57.1% of users selected the golden poop over both rainbow iterations and only one person gave constructive feedback on the golden poop - being that the inner lines need to be a bit lighter.

As for toilet paper, users were significantly more divided, with 2 people choosing regular, trident only, and poop only versions, but 3 people chose the trident + poop toilet paper. Suggestions for improvement included making it look more sparkly and other shading suggestions for the outside part of the roll. However in general feedback for both materials were positive across the board.

Future Testing Plans

Future design plans for all materials includes implemeting idle animations when the materials drops and/or appear in the crafting inventory. Therefore, user testing will need to be conducted regarding the design, look and feel of these animations.

Additionally, should more crafting materials need to be designed, the design of those materials will need to be user tested, similarly to the user tests of all materials implemented in the game so far. These user tests will likely be in the form of surveys targeted to the studio's members.
