In level one character uses plumber items to defeat enemies, they aren’t strong and don’t do as much damage. In later levels, they pick up greek mythology-themed weapons that do more damage. (Voted by story team in consultation with weapons team, note for sprint one the weapon will be a flashy weapon that is intended to do high damage, that will be replaced in sprint two with plumber items and flashy weapon put in level 2, this was to accommodate weapons team timeline and designs already made.)

Why are they sinking Atlantis: Sick of clogged toilets

  • Different weapons increase different stamina, mana etc, you must trade weapons.

Character Inventory - How they work with story:

  • Toilet inventory/chest, start of each level and one at the end of the level, then one before the boss. Connected through piping so they always have inventory
  • Checkpoint saving

Who is this character?

Our main character is a pissed off plumber, they are over unclogging so many toilets that are varying degrees of disjust. He is either one of the few or the only plumber(s) on the island. He is your stereotypical plumber, middle age white dude that is anti-rich. He’s very working class, pro breaking down the system that was built in the literal burn it all down or in this case drown the whole island. Since he is asexual he is a selfish and self-centred character who only cares about himself.

Where do we start:

Lavish upper class greek area, probably within a upperclass/rich persons mansion, a lot of marble pillars, a lot of greek lavish style things like laying chairs, goblets, packed tables of food with grapes, bread, fruits etc. Opening scene is [Player] unclogging someones messy disgusting toilet - potentially you see tentacles slither away out of the corner of the game as a start of the camp horror.

What’s the basics of the idea:

Upset plumber:

  • As the only Atlantis plumber, Bobticular is sick of work. Middle-aged and horribly overworked, he plans to reach the depths of Atlantis and pull its plug to sink the city. No guard, monster, or eldritch beast will stop his quest to get a day off.
  • Can still have normal weapons implemented, but can also have fun implementing like ‘Atlantis’ items (plumbing pipe, wrench, ambrosia, what would they look like?)
  • Buff items can still remain the same
  • Plumber can drink ambrosia (god’s food) to get more powerful skills
  • Makes sense on a level setting, further down we go it gets more difficult (we need those ambrosia drinks), but at level 1 it works, cause this is just some regular Atlantian (using a pipe / shitty dagger)
  • Makes sense from an enemy sense (Atlantian guard -> monster -> extra scary monster)
  • Final enemy is suggested to be the Hydrah but in the ocean (tentacle suggestion), fighting them off to finally pull the plug and sink it all
  • Suggestion for final scene: captain goes down with his ship type thing. Or rowing away with his favourite people to find land.

Building from that, what does that look like level to level?

Level 1 (Sprint one):

Setting: Lavish greek setting where [Player] has to interact with snobby NPC’s and enemies. Colouring is light, fun, rich (greek type rich) and lavish. [Player] is completely out of place in this setting, looks like he doesn’t belong.

Level of the gods and people Enemy ideas: End of level there's a snobby gym bro?

  • Minor enemies (potentially later on) - to be rougelike we need multiple deaths:
  • Fighting a person in the bathroom
  • Tentacles yoink him
  • Slips on water and dies
  • Debuffs + buff combo kill
  • Potions - never know what they are? Or realise one can kill you?

Level 2 (Sprint two): Thought pinned for sprint 2: Greek gods, story team implement The story team voted to have level 2 as grungy poverty, industrial and dungeon elements type thing.

Setting: Poverty, messing, functional, grungier. Middle class, things falling apart, darker colours, gloomier, sadder people, think Bioshock, stray. Under the city, pipes, brutal industrial architecture with Greek themes. People are selfish, cruel, hateful, and only self-serving. Maybe touch on a plumber seeing a friend or family that hates him.

NPC’s ideas: Plumbers (Plumbers do nothing, useless, and don’t do their job), guards, basic non-threatening monsters

Enemy ideas: Slimbeball, murderous poop, NPC turned enemy (someone you trusted or helped at the start of the level), Starting to get more monster enemies

Idea:

  • NPC’s hateful, depict the resentment
  • Enemies: other plumbers
  • Tentacles slithering back into pipes, toilets and tunnels
  • Garbage lying around the environment
  • Under the city, pipes, dark, glowing monsters

Level 3 (Sprint three):

  • Dungeon style
    • Blueish underground see look
    • Dark blues, greys, washed out in comparison to L1& L2
    • Pipes, hidden areas
    • Bioluminescent
    • Industrialised
    • Skeletons

NPCs Ideas:

  • The old plumber will help the player to gain knowledge of the level 3 dungeon.
  • A drunk/ intoxicated rich person with glowing mushrooms
    • Tripping
    • Potions on him
    • Call back to disgusting, mean, cruel rich people in level 1
  • Guards protecting (are these also enemies? Are these monstrous guards)
    • Leave to NPCs and enemies

  • Fighting the hydra to pull the final plug, the hydra is protecting the plug

Name: Boss

Basic ground: Strange man living in the wealthy quarters of Atlantis. Because they look different from others, they suffer from low self-esteem, which gradually develops into distortion. He likes to bully his subordinates and people he doesn't even know. Typical capitalist, but also a pathetic character in the context (ostracized for not looking the same).

The strange man was born to his mother by an unknown god.

Race: Demigod

Relationship with characte: Boss, not friendly.

Female:

Name: Lily

Basic ground: The famous beauty of Atlantis, with many suitors. But I do not know when more than a "brother". For the common people and the rich are calm, they only hate their own "brother".

She thought his ugliness caused the gods to stop seeing her.

Race: Human

Relationship with character: Boss’s mother, Neutral, dismissive, unfamiliar

Relationship with other NPC: Boss’s mother.
