Description of the test

In this user test, we use the think aloud method in order to get a simultaneous response from users. Through this method, we were able to observe the facial expression and receive feedback in the most straight forward way. After reflecting from the past user testing, we realised that we did not have a chance to let users play around the game. Therefore, this time we invited five external users aged between 24-30 to play the game and give us aesthetic feedback regarding the starfish enemy.

Purpose of the test

From our previous starfish animation user test through questionnaire, we received a feedback suggests us to change the starfish's colour. In this user test, we aimed to focus on what people think about the colour of starfish and the animation.

Results

From observation, all users are impressed with the game itself. When it comes to the starfish, 3 users think the starfish is cute and colourful, 1 user thinks the way it moves is gross and 1 user thinks it's a good character. This outcome is quite surprising because from the previous user testing, most users think the starfish is a bad character and some people even think it as a final boss. However, in this think aloud user testing, majority of the users gave the starfish positive description.

Further, 2 users in this user testing mentioned the colour of the starfish. They both think that the starfish is transparent until the starfish walk to the land. After they saw the real colour of the starfish on the land, they both gave positive feedback on the starfish. After the user testing, I asked them about the starfish colour, did they think it should be changed? They both said that the colour didn't need to be changed. One user expressed that this colour made the starfish look semi-transparent in the sea and vivid on the land which gave her a good user experience. Because the starfish would walk between the sea and the land, players would start to realise its a blue colour starfish. Overall, from this user test, we can see that people who really interact with the game give positive feedback on the starfish's colour.

Summary

In summary, from this user test, we received abundant valuable opinions which were different from the past questionnaire user test. Most of them are about projectile and the coding side problem. We also got the information we would like on the starfish animation. It is good to see that all users are impressed by the game and give positive feedback about the starfish. The starfish animation is validate to be suitable for the game as an enemy character in this user test.
