Health Potion Design Process

Old Design

User testing feedback:

• Does look like a potion, but not a health one
• The flask looks jagged and rough – aim for more consistent and reconsider a rounder shape
• Users were given outline of potion and asked to colour it in – 5/5 people chose some shade of red

Inspirations

Mainly looked for the general shape & cork from inspirations, as well as some of the colour pattern.

Design Process – New Health Potion

1. Basic Drawing of flask
2. Pixel Outline
3. Coloured-in flask
4. Flask Cap detailed - making the bottom part look like it is actually behind real glass
5. Final shading – improved quality to better fit the pixel design & adhere to design guidelines set by committee

Users were asked to choose between the 2 options and all 4 chose the new red potion.

Key Improvements:

• Shape improved to be rounder & more consistent
• Colour changed to red so that it looks more like a health potion
