Description of the test

This user testing was aimed to improve our design of the second ranged enemy. We listed six questions on the survey for people who like to play games in their spare time. We believe with their experience on playing games, we can receive some valuable suggestions from these participants. After receiving the feedback, we will modify our mid-fi prototype to a final design.

Purpose of the test

The purpose of this test is to know how people think about this character and what can be improved. The main focus would be on:

  1. If people can tell that this character is an enemy.
  2. If they can tell that this character is a starfish.
  3. If they can see a Ninja elements in this enemy.
  4. How people think about the drawing, including the colour, and the design.

User testing design

In order to meet the purpose of the test, we have designed six questions:

  1. What creature do you think it is?
  2. Do you like the colour of this character?
  3. Do you reckon this a good character or an evil character?
  4. What do you like or dislike about this design?
  5. Does this character look 3D to you?
  6. Can you see a Ninja in it?

And one question for recommendation. In these seven questions, three of them are designed for users to write a short answer so that we can receive more valuable feedback compared to multiple choice questions.

Analysis

Our goal in this user testing was to make sure:

  1. Everyone agrees that this character is a starfish/ninja starfish.
  2. Everyone sees it evil.
  3. Everyone considers it as an isometric character.

From our observation of the answers, we found that all participants agree that the character is a starfish. Majority of users like its colours and are able to see a Ninja element in this enemy. There are also 75% of people agree that this character is an evil character. However, only 33.3% of people agree that this character looks 3D and 27.8% of people think it as not 3D at all. This is what we will need to improve in our high fidelity prototype. Other recommendation we received is to add a bandana to the design.

Overall, we validated the species of the enemy, and ensure that most people view it as an evil character but failed to convince users that this character is isometric.

Summary

To sum up, the creation of this character is successful as most people can see a ninja starfish in this design. For the question asking what users like or dislike, most people indicated that they like the colours of this enemy. The only thing we need to change in our high fidelity prototype is to make this enemy more 3D which we will need to do extra research and see if we can make it more isometric. In conclusion, by conducting this user testing, we received several valuable feedback and found a design opportunity to make this design better.
