Goals:

The goal of this user testing is to put our final map/level design to the test. We want to check what does user feels about the map/level design and how user reacting the map/level we design. From this user testing, we will have gathered insights from users and validated our ideas.

Method:

Design walkthrough. It is important to see how user feel like the first impression about the game. And how does they react the map/level they never see before.

Task:

T1: Find a way to the lava room T2: Find a way to the boss room T3: Go to the next level

Observations

T1 T2 T3
Participant 1: Take some time to find the lava room Find the boss room Try to kill boss, and kill all the enemy to trigger next level
Participant 2: Can find the lava room Find out to follow the blood on the ground can find the way to boss room Find out using teleport can go to next level

Conclusion

Our design is impacts participants ‘some of the action and decision in a good way.

Question:

Q1: Do you think it is easy to find the Boss room Q2: What do you think about using blood on the ground in general Q3: What do you think the level size Q4: what do you think the general art style

Results:

(Rate 1 -5) Q1 Q2 Q3 Q4
Participant 1: 5 5 2 map is a little bit too big 5
Participant 2: 4 5 3 map is big but some of the room is too small 5

Overall, the users identified the theme to be Norse mythology related. Very positive feedback about the general art style and some design decision (blood led way to boss room etc.). Testing showed that the general map design is going the right way. The room size and level size still need some testing and fixing.
