Sprint 3 Lore Source Inventory

Authors: Ziqin Sun (Member 4) + hezhenyu (Member 1) Status: Reference — the confirmed story lives on The Fall of the Pantheon — Story Last checked: 22 Sep 2026 against origin/main and the GitHub Wiki

This page records what is actually in the build and in existing documentation, so story and card text can be written without contradicting it.

Note on history. An earlier draft of this page proposed a story set in an "Astral Archives" with a failed Eclipse Ritual. That draft was superseded: the design committee had already agreed a story at the start of semester, recorded in the Design Committee Notes. Section E records what changed and why.

How to Read This Page

  • EXISTING — already present in game configuration, UI, or published Wiki documentation. These should not be contradicted without committee approval.
  • DESIGN-ONLY — documented in design material but not currently used by the live build.
  • SUPERSEDED — proposed at some point, but no longer canon.

A. Existing

A1. Game Title and UI Labels

  • Game title: The Fall of Pantheons
    • Source: ForestGameArea.java
  • Card library heading: CARD ARCHIVE
    • Source: CardLibraryDisplay
  • Bestiary heading: ENEMY ARCHIVE
    • Source: BestiaryDisplay
  • Current battle/map backgrounds are generic forest, dungeon, and mud environments
    • Source: backgrounds.json

A2. Existing Archive References

The current card content and Team 6 documentation frame the setting around an archive or ruined archive environment. This wording predates the confirmed story and is being replaced — see section E.

Examples include:

  • "Bind your fate to the archive."
    • Card: sealed_pact
    • Source: cards.json
  • Survival cards use ruined archive debris as their visual and thematic setting
    • Source: Survival Cards Wiki
  • Guardian cards draw on archive guardian combat techniques
    • Source: Guardian Cards Wiki
  • Corruption cards are framed as Corrupted Alchemy
    • Source: Corruption Cards and PIERCE Effect Wiki
  • Forbidden cards use ritual, oath, and ruin-mark language
    • Source: cards.json and Forbidden Cards Wiki
  • Shared visual direction:
    • aged brass
    • deep indigo
    • warm amber
    • astrolabe / orbital-ring motifs
    • dark archive halls

A3. Five Round 2 Card Schools Plus the Sprint 1 Baseline

The five named schools refer to the 20 Round 2 cards.

The six Sprint 1 cards are the baseline set and are not treated as a sixth school.

Set Cards
Sprint 1 baseline strike, defend, poison_dagger, expose, inner_focus, bandage
Guardian Arts warding_sweep, sentinels_rebuke, wardens_judgement, unseal_the_breach
Astral Magic starfall, rift_lance, astral_ward, resurrection
Corrupted Alchemy poison_flask, poison_blade, poison_cloud, poison_mark
Ruin Survival makeshift_shelter, rubble_barricade, emergency_salve, purify
Forbidden Rituals sealed_pact, blood_price, doom_sigil, iron_oath

Sources include:

  • Initial Cards Wiki
  • Guardian Cards Wiki
  • Corruption Cards and PIERCE Effect Wiki
  • Survival Cards Wiki
  • Forbidden Cards Wiki
  • Round 2 Master Card List
  • cards.json

Current cards.json descriptions are primarily gameplay rules text rather than story blurbs.

Card Discovery lore text does not currently exist.

Card ids are load-bearing. They are referenced by chanceEncounters.json, save data, the shop allow-list and card discovery. Renaming a card changes its name and description only; ids stay as they are.

A4. Live Enemy Roster

Sources:

  • enemies.json
  • bestiary.json
  • Enemy Bestiary Wiki
ID Name Tier Current Description
lesser_shade Lesser Shade NORMAL Unstable shade; attack or defend at random
bone_crawler Bone Crawler NORMAL Patient scavenger; mostly defends, then strikes
dark_acolyte Dark Acolyte NORMAL Corrupted devotee; stored armour empowers attack
tomb_guardian Tomb Guardian ELITE Armoured sentinel; retaliates when shield breaks
void_knight Void Knight ELITE Fallen warrior; much more dangerous below half HP
boss_knight Boss Knight BOSS The final guardian of the ruins

These names and roles are the current live implementation baseline. Enemy identity is Team 1's; Team 6 writes around these names rather than proposing changes to them.

A5. Chance Encounters

Source: chanceEncounters.json

Current entries:

  • Shrine
  • Healing spring
  • Forgotten cache
  • Wandering healer
  • Flooded crossing
  • Abandoned mine
  • Roadside riddle
  • Corrupted alchemist

These are mechanically implemented but currently use generic adventure flavour. Sprint 3 will rewrite this text so each encounter has a story reason for the player being there.

A6. Run Structure

  • The generated map has one start row and ten encounter rows, with exactly one boss node (MapGenerationConfig.java, NodePoolGenerator.java).
  • enemies.json contains six enemies, one of which is tier BOSS.
  • There is no act or chapter concept in the code, and defeating the boss does not end the run — the player is returned to the completed map.

A single playthrough therefore contains one boss. Any story written for Sprint 3 has to work within one act.

B. Design-Only Material

Source: Enemy System Design Document Wiki

The following terms appear in design documentation but are not the live enemy configuration:

  • Astral Archives
  • Eclipse Ritual
  • Fallen Archivist

That document describes the Fallen Archivist as the former deepest guardian of the Astral Archives, fused with the archive core after the failed ritual. It also proposes four enemies:

  • Blade Disciple
  • Arcane Apprentice
  • Abyss Hound
  • Fallen Archivist

None of these are in enemies.json. The live six-enemy roster is different.

Eclipse Decree was previously designed as a Forbidden card but removed before the final Round 2 set.

This material is superseded — see section E. The mechanical half of that document (Intent cycles, physical vs magical attacks, enemy synergies, boss phases) is design work that remains useful even though its setting does not.

C. Gaps Identified

These were the gaps found when the inventory was written. Section E records where each one now stands.

  • the player's identity
  • why the player enters
  • why the player must reach the final encounter
  • what the title refers to
  • whether Boss Knight has a story identity
  • per-card background stories
  • Card Discovery unlock text
  • opening, pre-boss, victory and defeat text
  • why the five card schools can all appear in one run

D. Conflicts Found

Recorded as found, not hidden:

  1. The live boss is named Boss Knight, while the Enemy System Design Document uses Fallen Archivist.
  2. The live normal enemies are Lesser Shade, Bone Crawler and Dark Acolyte, while that document lists Blade Disciple and Arcane Apprentice.
  3. The game title is The Fall of Pantheons, while most Team 6 flavour describes a single ruined archive.
  4. Chance encounters read as a generic journey, while combat and card flavour suggest a single location.
  5. The committee story was not on the wiki at all. Anyone looking for it found the Enemy System Design Document instead, which is where most of the archive flavour originated.

E. Current Status

The confirmed story is on The Fall of the Pantheon — Story: the player is an angel, the gods have been corrupted by a villain, and the player purifies them rather than destroying them.

Superseded. The Astral Archives / Eclipse Ritual / Fallen Archivist material in section B, and a time-loop story proposal that previously occupied this section, are not canon. Do not write card lore or encounter text against them.

Still accurate. Sections A1–A6 remain a correct record of the build: UI labels, card ids and schools, the live enemy roster, the chance encounter list, and the run structure.

Where the gaps now stand:

Gap Status
Player identity Answered — a lesser angel, sent to cleanse the fallen gods
Why the player enters Answered — to reach and purify the god of that sanctum
What the title refers to Answered — the pantheon that fell to corruption
Why five schools appear in one run Answered — they are what the fallen sanctum left behind
Which god this act features Open — the committee's decision, not Team 6's
Boss and enemy names Open — Team 1's decision
Per-card lore To be written once card renaming is done
Opening / victory text Open — no team currently owns story presentation

Archive wording in the build. The card text quoted in A2 predates the confirmed story and is being rewritten as part of card renaming. The UI headings CARD ARCHIVE and ENEMY ARCHIVE are not Team 6's to change.

Feedback

If anything on this page is wrong or out of date — a source, a card id, an enemy description — tell Team 6 so the inventory stays accurate.
