iRODS as super user root - UPPMAX/irods GitHub Wiki
Something to consider
Especially the "direct access vault"
"which allows one to configure some iRODS resources to have a shared access model between iRODS and (say) NFS. Root permission is needed to manage file ownership and permissions for files in this vault since they may also be accessed from outside iRODS. This would be a typical usage model in an environment where there is a high performance filesystem served over NFS and accessed from a compute cluster, but the administrators want to enable the collection of meta-data on these files."
Sounds like the solution we are tried to set up at UPPMAX. But with a non super user and sticky bit and other hard stuff.
But it seems like a upcoming feature.
We need to dig in to it more.
We should have some kind of "direct access vault" any ways.
