Important directories

Your home directory

Your home directory is a place for storing files private to your user. You are provided with 50GB of storage sponsored by the Office of Information Technology. Limits are enforced by hard quota, you may pay to increase the quota at a subsidized rate (billed monthly).

Home directories are located under /data/gpfs/home

example: /data/gpfs/home/NetID

Your association directory

Your association directory is a place to share files and software with your colleagues. Typically the association directory has a disk quota that was determined by your investment level. Association storage is purchased at the same subsidized rate as home directories and is billed monthly. Similar to home directories, hard quotas are used to enforce limits.

Association directories are located under /data/gpfs/assoc/

Please be aware that this data is not backed up.

By default all members of the association have read, write, and execute access to the top level directory. If you are a member of an association any requests for changes to the permissions privileges require approval from the association owner.

Notes

  • You are billed for the quota limit, not disk space utilization.
  • Your quota may be increased at any time during a month, but may only be decreased at the end of a billing cycle.
  • There is no "scratch" directory. You must pay for all space beyond the sponsored 50GB home directory. Example: if you keep 5TB of data but requires 20TB during calculations, then you must pay for a quota 20TB.
  • GPFS snapshots are used. Your home directory snapshots are sponsored by the Office of Information Technology.
  • Association snapshots are billed to association owners.
