As per competition rules, the sensor is powered by the auxillary battery via the Aux Power Connector.

Board uses a MQ-8 Hydrogen Gas sensor. It can detect hydrogen gas from 100-10000 ppm. Sparkfun has a link to the datasheet and a wiring example.
Rules for Shell EcoMarathon require that the sensor triggers shutdown at 1 % (10000 ppm). This sensor has suffient sensitivity
