WHAT IS 3D PRINTER ?

A 3D printer is a modern manufacturing device that produces physical objects directly from a computer-generated design. Unlike traditional machines that cut or remove material, a 3D printer generally adds material in successive layers to form the required shape.

What is 3D Printing?

3D printing is a process in which a computer design is converted into a physical object. First, the required object is designed on a computer. The design is then processed by special software, which divides it into many thin layers. The printer produces these layers one after another until the complete object is formed.

For example, if we want to make a small plastic gear, we can design the gear on a computer and send the design to a 3D printer. The printer will build the gear layer by layer.

Existing Solutions

There are already many solutions available in the market for making physical objects and prototypes. CNC machines, injection molding machines, laser cutters, and ready-made products are commonly used by industries and businesses. CNC machines provide accurate cutting and shaping, while injection molding is useful for producing large quantities of plastic products. Laser cutters are useful for cutting and engraving different materials. However, these machines can be expensive and may not be suitable for making small quantities or customized products. 3D printers provide an easier and more flexible solution because they can create customized objects directly from a digital design with less setup.

Q4. What components/sub-components are needed?

Main Parts of a 3D Printer

A 3D printer has several important parts:

1.HOT END

The hot end is the part that heats the filament until it melts. The melted filament then passes through the nozzle to create the object.

2.Arduino Mega

Arduino Mega is the main controller used to control the motors, heating system, cooling fan, and sensors.

It processes printer commands and coordinates the movement and operation of different components.

# 3. Build Platform

The build platform is the surface on which the object is created. The first layer is placed on this platform, and the remaining layers are built above it.

4. Heating Element

The heating element heats the printing material to the required temperature. In filament-based printers, it melts the plastic before it comes out of the nozzle.

5. STEPPER Motors

Small motors move the print head or build platform in different directions. These movements allow the printer to create the required shape accurately

6. Cooling Fan

The cooling fan cools the plastic after it comes out of the nozzle and helps it become solid.

7. Frame

The frame is the main structure of the printer. It holds all the parts together.

8. Belts

Belts help move the print head smoothly and accurately.

9. Display Screen

The display screen allows the user to control the printer and change settings.

10. Filament Holder

The filament holder holds the filament spool and allows the filament to move toward the printer.

11. Power Supply

The power supply provides electricity to the printer and its different parts.

12. Endstop Sensor

The endstop sensor tells the printer when a moving part has reached its correct position.

Software Components

1.CAD Software – Used to design the 3D model, e.g., SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or Tinkercad.

2.Slicing Software – Converts the 3D model into printable layers and generates G-code, e.g., Cura,
