Later, in 1959, he partnered with Walt Disney, who provided the company with resources to expand. The company entered the video game industry in 1974 after acquiring the Japanese division of Atari, distributing games as a breakout for Japan. The first Pac-Man saga game was released in 1980, and was one of the company's first major hits.

Pac-Man was created by video game designer Toru Iwatani. Iwatani was inspired by a pizza that was missing a piece to create the famous protagonist of the saga. Its name comes from the onomatopoeia paku (パ ク) which represents the sound produced when the mouth is opened and closed. It was originally marketed in Japan under the name Puck-Man, but the American distributor Midway changed it to Pac-Man for the USA market, as puck looks like fuck.
