Personas

This wiki covers creating personas considering value-sensitive design with the focus of narrowing the prototype, according to feedback received from tutors.

https://www.homelessnessaustralia.org.au/about/homelessness-statistics This source provides statistics regarding homeless in Australia according to the 2016 census. The personas made will be based off these statistics to understand the general demographic of individuals experiencing homeless and ensured they are capture. Other resources will be used (such as interviews on Youtube of individuals experiencing homelessness), and primary research gathered from speaking to proxies and target users. This is to ensure that the personas appropriately and realistically capture a homeless individual.

Two example users have been gathered, Amy Byers (not based of a real individual), which allows for personification, and an image to better feel as if we are catering to the needs of real individuals. Byers is a domestic violence survivor, who has prior work experience in Aged Care. She captures the older demographic of individuals, and those who have qualifications and work experience. This is an incredibly important factor in creating a prototype with an Airtasker-like application, to ensure that homeless individuals aren't just advertised quick gigs, but are able to work towards their strengths and skills. This is a crucial aspect that was brought to our attention, as we did not want our application to bring down the hopes of individuals experiencing homelessness, advertising jobs that required no prior skills or knowledge, which can be quite degrading. Having a persona that captures someone with prior experience allows us to better cater towards her needs.

Vern is a younger person, who does a lot of couch-surfing, what indicates that he does not have stable housing. He also has some prior skills, and an interest in technology. He does not have any qualifications, however his hands-on skills are something he wants to work towards. Vern is just another example of a persona, to broaden our scope, but also keep it narrow enough to ensure we are targeting the needs of these specific individuals.
