When an enemy of Rome has been thoroughly vanquished, an opportunity arises. The men of this conquered state can be offered the privilege of serving within the Roman army for honest pay and a share of the spoils of war. These foreigners bring in their own fighting styles to compliment the heavy infantry of the Romans, making that great army that defeated them all the more powerful. Since the Auxiliaries may share in the fruits of Roman conquest, the system does not invite mutiny and endangerment to the legions. As the polity coalesces further under Roman authority, it may be able to tap into a larger market of more experienced warriors.
