An important location in 1776 New York. Scene of the first NYC reading of the Declaration of Independence on July 9 (source). Site of the "Liberty Pole". Nathan Hale tried and executed here.

The northern end of the park in 1825, as seen from the corner of Chambers and Broadway. The building on the left is the former almshouse, which by 1825 was serving as a museum. The center building is the jail. (Source)
