1776 ‐ British‐occupied New York - TimeWalkOrg/Manhattan GitHub Wiki
At the start of the Revolutionary War, the British surrounded Manhattan and took over the city. It was occupied for 7 years. A huge fire burned 25% of the buildings soon after the occupation. We need to reconstruct the city as it was just before that invasion and fire. Our best sources are the "British Headquarters Map" (made in 1782 but very high resolution and probably not too different), and the 1775 John Montresor Map. Where they disagree, let's defer to the Montresor Map.

Trinity Church
- There were 3 incarnations of the famous Trinity Church (on Broadway at Wall Street). In 1776, the "First" Trinity Church was still standing, but was burned in the Fire of 1776.
- The First (1698-1776) Trinity Church on right. Note that it faces west (toward the Hudson River), unlike later incarnations.
