Weather monitoring

For a sailing yacht, the weather is clearly important. At the moment, we are interested in the local weather conditions while sailing. For large yachts wind measurement would be done on board, however, for a model yact this is not practical.

Therefore, we measure the wind on the shore, and apply it directly to the yacht. This relies on a few key elements:

1. The wind is measured at roughly the same height as the yacht
2. The area the yacht is sailing in is small enough that there are no wind changes
3. The measuring equipment is placed at a known location upwind of the yacht
4. There are no wind shadows or areas of turbulence
