For the setup where Tiers 9 and 10 are youth academies, Tiers 8 to 5 are semi-professional, and Tiers 4 to 1 are professional

  1. Tier 1 (MLSP):

    • Minimum Age: No restriction
    • Rationale: As the top professional league, players of all ages, including the most experienced, should be allowed to play.
  2. Tier 2 (ASL Championship):

    • Minimum Age: 17
    • Rationale: As a high-level professional league, you want to allow for slightly younger talents to emerge but still maintain a professional standard.
  3. Tier 3 (ASL League One):

    • Minimum Age: 17
    • Rationale: Similar to Tier 2, this league should allow young but professional-ready players.
  4. Tier 4 (ASL League Two):

    • Minimum Age: 16
    • Rationale: This league should start to foster even younger professional players, allowing 16-year-olds to start their professional careers.
  5. Tier 5 (Gatorade Championship):

    • Minimum Age: 16
    • Rationale: As the entry point into professional football, 16-year-olds should be given the opportunity to break into the professional scene.
  6. Tier 6 (Gatorade Classic League):

    • Minimum Age: 15
    • Rationale: As a semi-professional league, younger players should get early exposure to competitive football.
  7. Tier 7 (National Amateur Premier League):

    • Minimum Age: 15
    • Rationale: Similar to Tier 6, but with slightly less competition, it allows younger players to develop.
  8. Tier 8 (National Amateur Championship):

    • Minimum Age: 14
    • Rationale: The lowest semi-professional tier should provide opportunities for very young talents to begin their competitive journey.
  9. Tier 9 (Development League Premier):

    • Minimum Age: 14
    • Rationale: As an academy-level competition, this tier should allow the youngest eligible players to get their first taste of structured competition.
  10. Tier 10 (Development League Championship):

  • Minimum Age: 13
  • Rationale: This should be the starting point for the youngest academy players, allowing them to grow within a competitive framework.
