Consonant Sounds - Multiple Keys
The Asterisk
I use a traditional steno machine. The asterisk key has two keycaps, but it doesn't matter which one I press. They both depress and register the same output on my digital paper tape: *. This influences how I write.
My only rule for how to write with the asterisk is to hit it however you can to suit your purposes. Do what feels comfortable instinctively for now. Assess whether it's the fastest way to use the key later. You have time. And it's probably fine.
If I want an asterisk included in a stroke, I either hit the asterisk with all the rest of the keys at once using whatever finger feels comfortable or you can chord the stroke and raise one finger to hit the asterisk, keeping the other fingers (or at least one finger) depressed.
