Inspiration

We were initially inspired to build an interactive device involving music when Arpit and I built a Theremin. We shared a sense of excitement being able to create music through a physical interaction that didn't require any skills. From this we had a vision to build a device that would allow anybody to create music in a fun and inviting way. Brett, an avid freestyle rapper, was also excited by this vision and a great addition to the team.

Adding Feedback

As we played around with developing a test drum and the idea of creating sound, we felt that audio feedback wasn't enough. Then we hit an epiphany... what if we could also visualize the music we were creating through beautiful LED lights? That's when we got the idea to also build a music visualizer. We chose to house the LEDs in an infinity mirror because it simply seemed like the coolest display that we could build that would immediately attract a user's attention. We also felt that the circular shape of the mirror could resemble the shape of a base drum or a jukebox.
