Taking Turns

Time is divided into "ticks" which we might suppose are a second or so long, but not worry to much about. Each character has an initiative score; when the character's initiative score equals the tick number, that character takes a turn. At the end of the turn, the character's initiative score gets increased, setting a new tick number when the character next takes a turn.

Note that the increase to the initiative score can vary between characters.

On Your Turn

On his or her turn, a character gets a minor action and a major action. In addition, player character, once per encounter, can use a second major action. Actions can be taken in any order, but you have to complete one before the next. You cannot use part of your minor action, then your major, then the rest of your minor.

During a minor action a character can move up to his movement squares, can shift one square, can interact with the environment, can draw or sheave a weapon, can hand something to another character, can attempt first aid, can load a gun or bow.

During a major action a character can do anything he or she can do in a minor action, but can also make an attack or cast a spell.
