Character Creation and Levelling - ThePix/rpg_web GitHub Wiki

This assumes the software is installed and running, and you have the home page open.

Character creation is best done on a computer; a decent sized screen will be useful.

From the home page, in the Character section, click Creation new to create a new character, or click Edit for your character to modify an existing character (I am going to assume this is a new character from now on). This will take you to the character creation page.

At the top you will see Help (toggle), you can click that at any time to show or hide some instructions.

Below that, there are two grey boxes. The one on the left is where you create your character, the box on the right shows the results. You will need to click the Update button to get the information in the right box to be updated to the current values on the left.

The Left Box

The box of the left has three sections to it.

The first, Identification, is about who the character is. Of the first four, the name is the only one that is needed.

The level will be determined by the GM. We will get to the points later.

The second section is Weapons. Pick some weapons. Note that by default your character can only use one weapon; to be able to use more, you will need to buy ranks in packages (if you select them, they will revert back to "None" when you update the page if you do not have the slots available).

That brings us to the next section...

Packages

The heart of the system is the packages; your character is defined by the number of ranks he or she has in each package. Each rank will cost one point, and you have only got a limited number to spend.

You cannot spend more points in any one package than your level; if you are level four, then four points is the maximum (the system will not let you put a bigger number in there). The points display in the Identification section shows what you have spent and your total. It will be yellow if you have some to spend, red if you over spend, green if you are spot on.

Some packages are mutually exclusive; if you buy points in one, you will find you cannot in another.

If your character is a fighter, you are advised to get the maximum ranks in one of the warrior packages so you have a high attack skill, alternatively if your character is a spell caster, you should get the maximum in a mage list for the same reason.

Click on a package name to see what it offers (opens in a new tab, so you will not lose your work).

When you are done, click Create.

Attacks

The attacks available to your character will be determined by the weapons and packages you choose.

Basic Attacks

Your character will have a basic attack for each weapon selected (up to the number of allowed weapons). Your character's attack skill will apply to all of them (though other bonuses and penalties might apply).

Bonus Attacks

Some packages may give extra attacks for a weapon. In this case your character will receive an extra attack for each weapon - as long as the weapon is suitable for that attack. The attack bonus will be the lowest of the character's attack bonus and the bonus from this package.

Bonus Spells

Some packages may give extra attacks not associated with a weapon (not necessarily a spell). The attack bonus will be the bonus from this package.
