1. Blender Is Slow

Make sure Simplify is turned on and that you are in non-rendered mode

2. I can't enter Pose Mode

Make sure the armature is selected

3. Moving the Camera is a big pain in the arse

There are a few ways to move the camera- for general navigation:

  • Middle mouse button will Rotate the viewport camera. Scrolling will zoom in and out. Holding shift and middle mouse will pan the camera. Holding control and middle mouse will give a smoother zoom than mouse wheel. Alt and middle mouse will lock the view to Top/Bottom/Back/Front/Sides.

You can also use the numpad to lock the camera to the cardinal directions.

  • Numpad 1 - front view
  • Numpad 3 - side view
  • Numpad 7 - top view
  • Numpad 9 - bottom view
  • 2,4,6,8 will increment the view camera in different directions
  • 5 will swap between Orthographic and Perspective modes. By default, Blender will put you in Orthographic mode when you move the camera off a cardinal direction. To change this behavior, go into “Edit, Preferences” and find the menu pictured below. Turn off Auto Perspective.

4. How do I move objects in Blender?

With objects selected, you can either use the menu on the left of the 3D viewport to select a gizmo, or you can use hotkeys. Blender defaults to using G to move, R to rotate, S to scale. While using any of these, you may press XYZ to lock the movement to a specific axis. Double tapping an axis will change the lock from global to local, and holding shift will allow you to add another locked axis. (eg. you want to move something on a floor, but don’t want it going up or down, you’d press “G, X , Shift + Z”. You might think you need Y for the second press, but for some reason the second axis gets inverted when you add it.

5. How do I reset the pose of the character?

There is a Reset Pose in the pose library to reset the character to how it was when you first opened the file! Make sure you have all bone layers activated, then just find the pose, it's in it's own Category, then select all the bones and Apply. This will not reset the sliders of the character, just the pose

6. How do I reset the sliders quickly?

In Blender, you can copy paste values without clicking on them. Simply put your mouse over a value, and hit "cntrl" + "c", then mouse over any other value and hit "Cntrl"+"V".

7. How do I select multiple bones manually? How do I deselect them?

If you hold “shift” and continue clicking on new bones (Depending on your keymap it could be left or right click) It will add those bones to your active selection With multiple bones selected, “selecting” a selected bone twice will remove it from the active selection All bones can be selected or deselected by hitting the “A” key a few times
