Running Alice in Different Languages - TheAliceProject/alice3 GitHub Wiki
The language selected in the installer for Alice does not carry over into the the Alice application. Follow these steps to change the language in the Alice program. If you do not see the desired language or the translation seems incomplete consider helping us translate Alice! We depend on volunteer and partner help in translating Alice. If you would like to help contribute to the translation of Alice look here for how to get up and running.
Start Alice 3
First you will need to fully load Alice to be able to reach the preferences menu. Start Alice and select a template from the opening dialog box and select ok to continue into the full IDE. You can continue to the next step when you see File,Edit,Project,Run,Window, and Help across the top of the Alice window.
Set Preferences/Locale
- Select Windows in the menu bar.
- Select Preferences.
- Select Locale.
- Select the desired language from the list.
- A popup window tells you to exit and restart Alice. Click the OK button.
Some of the display text will immediately change to the language you have selected. Continue to the next steps as some of the interface is generated on start and will not be updated until you restart Alice.
Quit and Restart Alice
- Click the Red X button in the upper right of the Alice window or select Alice drop down and quit Alice 3.
- Restart Alice 3.
You will notice that most information in the display is now in the language you selected but some terms and phrases are still in English. The translation may look incomplete because the translation is still in progress. However, it is also the case that some terms are keywords in the underlying Java language. Java keywords will not be translated due to their special meaning in Java.
