Introduction

Chalmers Centre for Computational Science Engineering (C3SE) is one of six centers in the Swedish National Infrastructure for Computing (SNIC). National computational infrastructures are organised under SNIC and C3SE is the node located in Gothenburg.

Any user of SNIC resources first have to register at the SNIC User and Project Repository (SUPR) and from there apply for access to computer resources at the different centers. This tutorial shows how you can join an existing SNIC project and get access to the clusters at C3SE. Before you proceed you should ask your PI for the name of the project to join.

Register at SUPR

  1. First, register an account at SUPR.
  2. After login in, you can search for the project to join here, and then click the 'Request' button.
  3. Finally, approve the user agreement here

Account Requests

You don't need to wait until you have been accepted in a project to request an account, but the account will only be approved once you've been accepted in a project and approved the user agreement.

  1. Log into SUPR (https://supr.snic.se/)
  2. Click on Accounts (menu on the left)
  3. Click on Request Account on Hebbe or Request Account on Glenn and follow the instructions

The C3SE support team will then set you up with a Chalmers ID (CID) that will be your user name on the Chalmers resources you will access. This could take a few days.

Log on to Hebbe or Glen

C3SE currently consists of two computer cluster systems. Hebbe; that is available for national and local users, and Glenn for local users. If you are not directly connected to the Chalmers local network you first have to connect to one of the Chalmers ssh-remote servers remote1X.chalmers.se (where X is a number in the range 1-3).

ssh [email protected]

Exchange CID with the username you have been provided with from the C3SE support team. Type 'yes' when asked if you trust the remote server, followed by your CID password:

The authenticity of host 'remote12.chalmers.se (129.16.29.51)' can't be established.
RSA key fingerprint is d9:66:b6:0e:19:dd:99:2d:05:22:23:f8:14:04:03:43.
Are you sure you want to continue connecting (yes/no)? yes
Warning: Permanently added 'remote12.chalmers.se,129.16.29.51' (RSA) to the list of known hosts.
[email protected]'s password:

Next step is to login to one of the clusters hebbe or glenn.

ssh [email protected]
