Trick Umbrella

Weapon (rapier, shield), rare

A thin and elegant umbrella, black of colour and shimmering with a protective layer. A succesful DC 16 investigation check can reveal the umbrella is - in fact - a weapon.

Open. As a bonus action, you can open the umbrella if closed. While open, you cannot use the umbrella to attack as it instead becomes a shield. When you are subjected to an effect that allows you to make a Dexterity saving throw to take only half damage, you can subtract your proficiency bonus from the damage you receive on a succesful save.

Close. As a bonus action, you can close the umbrella if open. While closed, the umbrella counts as a rapier with a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with it.

Lore

There are few as talentless and disgusting as Fatz Ponzi, the the disheveled bard that calls himself a ’lounge singer’. Every wedding he’d get invited to, every event, he would always find a way to humiliate himself. At some point, the dear man stopped feeling shame for his debauchery and lack of human decency. When he infamously defecated into his own pants while on stage, he sank to yet another low. From that moment on, sleazy Fatz always carried an umbrella with him, to shield himself from rotten tomatoes and the like.
