Shield of Mercy

Armor (shield), very rare (requires attunement by a cleric, fighter or paladin)

The shield of mercy is a beautiful decorated shield with a round onyx in the middle. Instead of a +2 bonus to AC, the Shield of Mercy grants a +3 bonus to AC. The Shield of Mercy is also capable of sparing others from certain death. As a reaction upon seeing a creature within 10 feet take damage (except for psychic damage) from an attack or spell that would reduce it to 0 hit points, you can move 5 feet towards it to have the creature be reduced to 10 hit points instead, without provoking attacks of opportunity.

Lore

In the Eprorian line of kings, long before Alfonze II, a Shield of Mercy would have been the most prestigious award for combat medics in the army, granted to them by the monarch. Ironically, these shields were left unprotected to the test of time as their numbers dwindled and cunning collectors sought to have them shipped abroad.
