Hard-to-follow Writings

Wondrous item, Very rare (requires attunement)

A thick stack of parchment, inscribed with magical inks to ensure the longevity of the documents, consisting of accumulated notes, sheets and memos. The contents of the papers range from trivial information to deep secrets, but it is seemingly impossible to distinguish one from the other.

While attuned, these writings hold 25 points. Upon making any skill check to gain factual data, gather knowledge or recall information, you can expend any number of points from the writings and add the number to the outcome of the roll. You can choose to do so after rolling, but before knowing the outcome of the roll is a success or failure. Upon expending your final point, the next attack you make will automatically be a critical hit.

At dawn, the writings regain all expended points.

Lore

Though the Hard-to-follow Writings are far from the only artifacts recovered from an expedition into the Theatre of Echoes, they are the only ones that did not fatally maim those that laid eyes upon it. These stacks of manuscripts withhold untold information about a wide array of topics, some of which you thought were very, very private.
