Crimson Quill
Wondrous item, very rare (requires attunement by a spellcaster)
This sturdy, crimson feather of a Shoreline Fowler has been fashioned into an enchanted quill for the purpose of registering scrolls. The feathers of the Shoreline Fowler are well-known for absorbing magical ink. You can attune to the quill by sticking it directly into your wrist, rapturing the veins so that the feather soaks itself with your blood. Upon doing this, you must succeed on a DC 16 Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, you take 4d10 psychic damage and pass out for 1d4 hours. On a successful save, you take half as much damage and do not pass out.
While attuned, you can copy any one spell from your spell list during a short or long rest. You take 2d10 psychic damage for each level of the spell you want to copy. A spell copied this way is transcribed onto parchment - provided you have any - and is turned into a Crimson Spellscroll. The Quill can create up to three Crimson Spellscrolls before needing to recharge.
At dawn, the Crimson Quill fully replenishes its arcane capacities.
Lore
The Shoreline Fowler is a dastardly knave, but its feathers allow for rapid creation of scrolls. Scholars from the Liminal Arboretum argue - however - that the use of which is too taxing on the mortal spirit. As such, the Crimson Quill became an instrument of both help and hinder, and gained quick academic notoriety.
