Comitant

The statist people of the Ecomminic Establishment, set to nurture control, order and logic. Comitants are a disciplined race and are known for their natural-born analytical skills and unrivaled ability to create order in chaos. Through rigid hierarchy they serve the systems they install.

Ecomminic Authority

While easily mistaken for humans, the Comitants - although humanoid - are notoriously devoid of color. While humans appear in all shapes and sizes, the Comitants share significant similarities among the population. Their skin, for instance, is a shade of light gray and appears as if made from porcelain. Their two eyes are oversized when compared to their relatively small head size, the rest of their tall stature is commanding and distanced. Their overall complexion is smooth and does not appear to age as Comitants grow older. Any physical flaws are denounced by society and are therefore often associated with a lower ranking in their system’s hierarchy. Something extremely rare for a Comitant is the desire to stand out as it is even rarer to be appreciated by others. Their voices are characterized by the societal virtue of clarity; they speak monotonously, but highly understandable and without dialect or accent. They revel in order and clarity as they attempt to institutionalize every aspect of their daily life. Maximising efficiency is a virtue in Comitant society, as is the exertion of predictability and control. These defining characteristics guide the race as they wrest control of the chaos that is life.

Conform to Norm

The Comitants’ desire to control has led to the creation of a multitude of protocols, collectively memorized to follow. The anxiety to be cast out from society is ever-present for these highly communal people, therefore (civil) obedience is deeply internalized in their behavioural patterns. The agglomeration of protocols and plans is collectively referred to as ‘the system’ and is forever being optimized. Laws and regulations are written and worshipped, for the Comitants draw their strength not from religion, but from bureaucracy. The effort to optimize the ruling paperwork is - paradoxically enough - slowed down by the rules and laws themselves, as rigid restrictions protect the paperwork from being easily altered. The holistic nature of Comitant paperwork and their interaction with it is the reason why their societies know no significant leadership presence; the system is set to dictate society and individuals are in no position to nurture real change. This does not necessarily mean that the Comitants are of a conservative nature; although stern, they are very keen to improve existing structures, but this just happens to take years. Every Comitant has their own strict function which is clearly defined by the written laws and regulations that make up the system. This enables every citizen to be a productive member of society, while still being perfectly expendable in case of an unfortunate death or accident. Their social ranks are not built on wealth or charm, but rather on expertise, performance and experience. Through fulfilling your function to the letter, one is able to rise through the ranks of the bureaucratic machine. Those who are born are specified into entry-level functions, with all possibility for anyone to make for any function if they showcase the necessary aptitude.

United in Uniformity

The most prominent Comitant system is branded as the Ecomminic Establishment, an empire ruled by a pile of paperwork the size of a castle. Many smaller societies are gradually absorbed by the Comitants as destabilized regions often find the trade, knowledge and infrastructure worth the notorious rulesets that come with it. As befits their trademark compulsions, Comitants wish to fully chart and categorize the lands under their control. As with all interpersonal interaction, geo-political relations revolve around the mutual endowment of responsibility. In return for their sovereignty, the Comitants spread their influence without the need for war. To keep citizens in check - even those without the conformability of the Comitants - a social credit score supports a strict law. Outsiders often deem the Comitant law enforcement to be impersonal, but the cold effectiveness of it is precisely why Comitants uphold it. Unlawful or antisocial behavior will be structurally reviewed according to a set of criteria, resulting in either pro- or demotion within society. Immediate disputes will be settled by firm law enforcement. Whereas humans are all too easily corrupted, the Comitants live by their rules and protocols.

Comitant Names

Most Comitant systems have no strict regulations when it comes to naming your children other than the obligation to do so. Profanities, joke names and any other counterproductive naming is strictly prohibited and will be fined accordingly. Creativity is not a Comitant’s strong suit, so names are shared by entire generations of newborns. In day to day life, however, it is mandatory to refer to someone by their appropriate job title. Additionally, Comitants number their children to be registered and referred to with regard to the collective paperwork.
