Asteroid Scanner

Analyze the surface and inner structure of an asteroid by hyper-spectral imaging and CT Scanning by utilizing an organized swarm robot asteroid scanner.

Sensors

  • Hyperspectral sensors and LiDAR are used for scanning the surface of the asteroid identifying materials.
  • A CT Scanner is used to map the interior of an asteroid revealing its composition and material distribution.
  • Ground sounding equipment for further asteroid composure examination.

Scanning process

  1. Mother-ship (Hive) aligns with the asteroid's rotation axis without synchronizing its rotation resulting in the asteroid rotating in front of the Hive
  2. Swarm robots equipped with aforementioned sensors are deployed forming a ring large enough to go over the asteroid. Once the ring shape is stabilized it starts to move over the rotating asteroid acting as a ct/surface 3D scanner mapping the entire asteroid in a single pass.
  3. Should further information is needed, swarm robots can land on on the asteroid and using sounding equipment map the interior of the asteroid.
