Overview

A M48 Chaparral

The M48 Chaparral was a land-based short-range SAM system designed to use the AIM-9 missile. The system entered service in 1969 and was phased out between 1990 and 1998. It was intended to supplement the M163 VADS, with both systems receiving threat information from an AN/MPQ-49 Forward Area Alerting Radar. The missile carrier was designated the M730 is a modification of the M113, with the M730, M730A1, and M730A2 being based on the M113, M113A2, and M113A3, respectively.

  1. There is limited data on the offroad performance of the M730. However, being a tracked vehicle, it likely was capable of similar speeds to its on-road performance. Therefore, a speed debuff of 10 km/h from its road speed seems appropriate.

  2. [1] and [2] state the maximum cruise distance on the road for both the M730 and M730A1 is 483 km. Because the vehicle will spend a considerable time off-road in Warno, the endurance is likely lower. Therefore, a range of 350 km seems appropriate.

  3. The M48 features a cab and gunner station with high degrees of visibility, meeting the requirements for a "Normal" rating per the established standard
