The Client: The Educator Ltd.
The ideology is as following;
The industrial revolution took place because it allowed people to get richer. This made the worker’s motivation go up by hundreds of times. New millionaires were born, and now it only depended on your hard work – and our current society was formed on these ideas.
But this didn’t happen in the educational programs. Kids still go to school, universities and etc. and nothing in the system changed. People do it because they have to – like they did in past times to the factories. The idea was to change the educational system in a related way to how history affected the industrial world.
W: But which money can you pay? It’s immoral to pay money to the kids for education. How will you do it?
A: You want to create a new currency, a sort of “points” or “smart money” that the kids can earn if they would want to. Of course, it is made for kids – so it shall be blocked for some uses (i.e. drugs or so). But what can they pay for? For example, in educational purposes. Suppose, a kid could skip a test in return for his earned smart money. If he already earned it – he could spend his smart money on it. This is only an example of course.
The idea is formed on the belief that people tend to want to earn as much bonuses and pluses as they want. From first trials – kids in fact do want to earn smart money. They do not want to earn grades, they want to earn money, a reward. People would go to work if they know they earn money for sure. They wouldn’t go for earning a good word – but for a reward they good spend on. This is already created on a small scale.
What is already here:
A year ago, the realization hit that this should be done via an application – a vision with kids and a teacher all using their smartphones connected together through this application for the lesson together.
A first team (2 programmers) was formed, and created a prototype for the application. The team can no longer support it.
Steps as following;
The teacher walks in, everybody signs in, and the teacher sees the “class scheme”. The kids earn starting reward for coming to the lesson [the belief is that a kid should “have” to come to the lesson but shall be motivated].
The lesson is then is divided into 3 parts
Debut; the intro to the lesson. This can have what ever the teacher sees right – homework, or rewind of the last lesson, or “warm up questions”. The point is all of the kids receive a reward for their work in this part (This happens in real life as well – but then they get only attention). Also, the silent kids shall be heard as well – you don’t have to raise your hand to be heard – you have a button of “notify teacher” for which the teacher can see him.
Middlegame; New material being taught and intermediate level questions.
Endgame; tougher questions, which higher value.
At the end of the lesson everyone receives some points and then they get a “Journal” – details of all of the points he got during the lesson. During the lesson every kid only gets push notifications, which disappear after a moment.
At the end of the day you can spend all of your points on things.
The current system is slow, it requires an assistant and let’s say it’s a basic prototype.
Actual Work:
A new application to work simultaneously on 10 phones and 1 tablet/computer (a single class).
The client can provide phones to simulate with.
An actual database to be able to teach a few classes in parallel.
The database holds the position (student/teacher), the money, the identifier.
Design that enables you to give commands easily (the bottleneck is having a class with 20+ students and actually paying attention to their points/answers).
The teacher can see everyone attending the class at once (ids and names, and registration names).
The teacher commands: “Give #…, #.. points”, “Emoji”, “Begin next part of lesson”
The student can see the time remaining to the lesson, name of the class, name of the subject.
The student sees Emoji’s/points from the teacher as a notification that appears on screen for a few seconds and then disappear.
The student commands: “Register”, “Notify Teacher”
Wanted Future Features:
IOS application in the future.
Audio recognition commands “Give #31 four points”.
Send questions in the application.
Send additional work/homework database.
Possible participation in class from home.
*geographical registration to class??
The Vision:
Everybody shall use this. This shall motivate everyone. Today – the grades are appearing and disappearing in school. This shall motivate good students to study more as well as weak students.
