Outfeed

Note: The outfeed doesn't generate enough clamping pressure on the filament. We typically hang a weight off of the idler bar so that the rollers have sufficient grip on the filament when they get wet.

Assembly Steps

Step 1: Press M3 nuts into the nut traps in the motor mount. An easy way to do this is the insert a 20 mm socket cap screw into the hole from the other side and then screw it onto the nut. By tightening the screw onto the nut, the nut will be drawn into the nut trap. Use a vice to press the 608ZZ bearing into the the motor mount.

Step 2: Join the longer of the two M8 Threaded rods to the NEMA 17 Stepper motor using the vinyl tubing. If you cannot achieve a sufficiently tight fit you may have to add small hose clamps to hold the tubing in place.

Step 3: Attach the motor to the motor mount using two M3 socket cap screws.

Step 4: Attach the motor mount to the Outfeed Bar using four M3 socket cap screws in the orientation shown.

Step 5: Press a 608ZZ bearing into each side of both skateboard wheels. Usually this can be done by hand. If they don't seat down, you can seat them using M8 threaded rod and a couple of nuts.

Step 6: Attach one of the skateboard wheels to the threaded rod that is coupled with the motor using M8 nuts and washers. Make sure there is a bit of space between the wheel edge and the outfeed bar. Tighten the wheel to the point where it does not rotate.

Step 7: Press a 608ZZ bearing into the bearing mount using a vice.

Step 8: Attach the bearing mount to the drive wheel support using two M3 socket cap screws. Orient as shown in the video.

Step 9: Place the two outfeed filament guides between the outfeed bar and the drive wheel support such that they align with the 1/4 in holes and with the tabs pointed up. Place the outfeed mount coupling on the outside of the outfeed bar such that the hole in the curved end is aligned with the 1/4 in hole near the middle of the outfeed bar. Bolt it all together using two 1/4 in. bolts, nuts and washers. Note: If you have trouble finding the bolts, you can use 1/4 in threaded rod or even M6 threaded rod.

Step 10: Bolt the two pivot bar ends to each side of the idler bar as shown using 1/4 in. bolts, nuts and washers.

Step 11: Attach the other skateboard wheel to the shorter M8 threaded rod using M8 nylock nuts and washers. Make sure that the wheel can spin freely. Then attach the threaded rod to the idler bar with M8 nuts and washers. The attachment may need to be adjusted later on to make sure that the skateboard wheels align.

Step 12: Attach the idler arm to the outfeed bar with a 1/4 in. bolt, washers and a nylock nut. Make sure the idler arm is free to move, but is not sloppy.

Step 13: Attach the outfeed mount coupling to the outfeed mounting bar using two 1/4 in bolts, washers and nuts.

The outfeed is now complete.
