Work Space Requirements
The extruder itself will require a --m x --m area. Access to 110 or 220V power and good ventilation.
Additionally, if you will be processing the plastic bottles yourself, space will be needed for cleaning the plastic, shredding the plastic, incomming plastic bottles, delabled plastic bottles and plastic flake. We recommend storing collected plastic covered garbage cans as the ability to keep the plastic clean is critical. The work space should have a dirt free floor and access to water for cleaning. Plan on using at least --m x--m.
Building the Extruder
The Thunderhead filament extruder is still a prototype and requires a variety of skills and tools to be built successfully. Metal working, electronics and microcontroller programming skills are all needed. If you are considering building the extruder, please contact us. We'd be happy to help out.
The build documentation is divided into the major components of the extruder. The documentation page for each of the major components has the following:
- Short description
- BOM
- Tools list
- Link to pages detailing how to make necessary parts
- Assembly videos
- Step by step instructions for assembly
