Securing A Small Business IT System - Tech-inmotion/VPNTechguy GitHub Wiki

The risks small businesses take with their IT systems are sometimes quite astounding, but also at the same time, it is easy to understand why they are taking these risks. Large businesses today tend to secure their systems using Cisco routers and firewalls with the top of the range software to ensure their network is secured. Many financial firms use 128-bit encrypted VPN connections to navigate traffic inside and outside of their network. This is expensive and most small businesses do not have the budget to do this.

As a result, small businesses are often left vulnerable to hackers looking to hack a business network. Getting into a small business network is far more valuable than hacking an individual’s private information.

For one, the information an intruder can retrieve from a business network can be sold on to competitors. Now in most countries, this is industrial espionage, but in many cases, it is very hard to prove or know that a crime has been committed.

VPN software is the best way for these small businesses to ensure they are protected as best as possible without constraining their own finances.

The VPN software can be installed directly on the company’s business router protecting all outgoing traffic in an encrypted tunnel. Hackers that do gain access to the router will then be deterred because the hacker will also need to bypass the VPN software on the router. There are far easier pickings out there that a hacker can target as opposed to using more time to attempt a cyber attack on a router with a VPN.
