How does the Sculk Horde Spread - TeamPeril/Sculk-Horde GitHub Wiki

Introduction

You may sleep, but the Sculk Horde never does. The Sculk Horde is like rust, it constantly spreads and if not treated, will eventually consume everything to its core. There are multiple methods in which the Sculk Horde will attempt to spread itself. The Infection starts with Sculk Mites.

Spreading Mechanics

The Ancient Sculk Node

The Ancient Sculk Node is a living block that spawns in the Sculk Tomb Dungeon at 0,0. When activated, it will start to infect the surface above it in a large area. This is how generally world infestation begins. However, it is not the only way.

The Sculk Mite

The Sculk Mite is an infector-class unit that will burrow into victims at 50% or less health, turning their health into Sculk Mass for the horde. You will know if a mob is burrowed into if they have the Infected Status Effect. When the effect ends, it will take a chunk of your health and spawn mite(s) and more importantly, a Sculk Organic Mass block. This mass block will spawn enemies and spread infestation to the blocks around it.

NOTE: This entity can spawn naturally in the deep dark biome & the Sculk Tomb if configured.

The Sculk Spore Spewer

The Sculk Spore Spewer is an infector-class unit that does not move. It spreads the infection status effect to mobs around it, regardless of their health. It also spreads Sculk Infestation to nearby blocks notably faster. It has a lot of health, but cannot really fight back.

The Sculk Bees

While very cute, they are incredibly vital to the spreading process. There are two types of Bees: The Harvester Bee and the Infector Bee. The harvester bee collects mass from Sculk Flora and uses it to produce Sculk Resin and Sculk Mass for the horde. The Infestor Bee looks for overworld plants and flowers and infest them to spread Sculk around it.
