Enabling Out-of-Region DLC using CFW
If you're using a non-Japanese 3DS with custom firmware (CFW) to play Fire Emblem If and attempt to use DLC (like Invisible Kingdom), you'll likely find that the game completely ignores the new content. Luckily, it's not too difficult to get it working, although the steps differ depending on your setup.
This guide assumes you have already installed the patched DLC on your device. We can't help you obtain the DLC. You must also already be on CFW.
Using Luma3DS
If you have Luma3DS, its region emulation feature makes the process incredibly simple.
- With the 3Ds powered off, press and hold Select, then press the power button. Keep Select held until Luma's config menu appears.
- Check the option Enable patching.
- On your SD card, make a new folder in
luma
and name ittitles
. - Inside
titles
, create another folder and name it after the titleid of the base game version you have installed:
000400000012DC00
for Byakuya Oukoku/Hoshido000400000012DD00
for Anya Oukoku/Nohr000400000012DE00
for the Special Edition
- Inside that folder, create a text file named
locale.txt
. Open it up and typeJPN JP
. Save and close. - Pop the SD card back into your 3DS and you should now be able to access your installed DLC.
The above instructions apply to Luma3DS 7.0 and above! If you're using 6.6 or earlier and cannot update, instead of \luma\titles\titleid\locale.txt
, use the file structure \luma\locales\titleid.txt
with "JPN JP" written inside titleid.txt. The option to check in Luma's config menu will be called Enable region/language emu. and ext. .code.
Using NTR CFW
If you're using another firmware, you can get DLC working with an NTR plugin. For more information on what NTR CFW is, check out this handy guide. Many of the steps mentioned here are discussed there, as well.
- You'll first want to download one of the releases found here. In that zip archive, you'll want to extract BootNTR.cia and ntr.bin. Place ntr.bin in the root folder of your SD card, and BootNTR.cia in a location where you can install it later.
- If you're on a recent firmware like 11.X, use this version of BootNTR instead. You still need ntr.bin from the first archive, though.
- Download the NTR language emulation pack here. We only need langemu_jp.plg, so extract it and set it aside for later.
- On your SD card's root, create a folder called
plugin
, and inside that, create another folder and name it the same as the titleid of the base game version you have installed:
000400000012DD00
for Anya Oukoku/Conquest,000400000012DC00
for Byakuya Oukoku/Hoshido, and000400000012DE00
for the Special Edition
- Place langemu_jp.plg into the folder you just made.
- Put the SD card back into your 3DS, boot as usual, and use your CIA installer program to install BootNTR.
- Open BootNTR and let it do its thing. If it doesn't close on its own after it's finished, return to the Home menu.
- If NTR ran without errors, start Fire Emblem If. If everything is working correctly, you'll see the screen flash green for a second as it loads.
