Starter Guide - Tarquinous/wg-expanded-editor-3 GitHub Wiki

Getting Started

Once you've installed the mod, the first step is to edit a map of your choosing, or make a new map!

In the Map Editor, bring up the menu and select "Mods".

You should see a mod titled "Expanded Editor". Click the switch to set it to Green, then select "Save and Reload Map".Note: The "Add to Mod" button will do nothing useful, as this is for installing a map to the mod itself.

You should now have access to all of the unlocked tools. To try it out, open the Units tab and you should see several new options appear. Try it out, place down the Vine unit onto the map.

When you're happy with your map, and wish to upload it, simply go back to the Mods menu, disable Expanded Editor, and select "Save and Reload Map". None of your work will be lost!

Frequently Asked Questions

Does disabling the mod remove any of my work?

Nope! It's designed to be disabled at your leisure and nothing will be lost.

Only exception to be mindful of is if you use UI: Dialogue (with Shout). If you go back and edit this action while the mod is disabled, the portrait may revert back to Mercia. It's fine to view the Actions menu, just don't click "Edit" on the dialogue action itself and this won't happen.

Troubleshooting and Problems

The mod isn't loading

This is a common issue people face. Please check all steps below:

  1. Have you downloaded the mod release file? This is not to be confused with "Source Code". If you look inside the mod you should only find two files: mod.dat and modAssets.dat and the folder should be called ExpandedEditor3. If you did accidentally download the source code, (with a folder called wg-expanded-editor-3), please download the latest release file from this page.
  2. Have you installed it to the correct folder? The correct installation folder is %appdata%\Chucklefish\Wargroove\mods. This is not to be confused with the modpacker_bin folder in your wargroove install location, which is where you make mods.
  3. Have you placed it one folder too deep?Your mod should not be a folder inside another folder. When you open the mod folder the first thing you should see is mod.dat and modAssets.dat. If you find they're inside another folder, copy the innermost folder into the Wargroove\mods folder.

My "Ambience" settings dropdown is empty

To allow ambient sounds as music, I had to make it not appear in that menu. Simply disable the mod in the mods menu, and they should reappear.

I got a crash from my map

In all likelihood you got a "Halley" error and was sent to the Main Menu. Chances are this is down to a "Garrison" unit placed on the map which has a known bug where if you open a Unit Info screen it causes this. It won't damage your map or current matches, but be mindful how finnicky this limitation is.

In theory I could fix this error within the mod, but then you wouldn't spot the issue when you're making the map, as this will persist and affect unmodded players.

If this isn't the cause of the problem. Please contact me and let me know!
