Lab 08: Instance - TanveeKhanDB/OCI GitHub Wiki
What is instance
Instance is a virtual server in the cloud that provides compute power, offering scalability, flexibility, and cost efficiency compared to traditional physical servers.
It behaves like a computer/server where you can:
- Install applications
- Run software
- Host websites
- Store and process data
An instance is created using:
-
🧠 CPU (OCPU) → processing power
1 OCPU=2 Virtual CPU -
🧮 Memory (RAM)
-
💾 Storage (Block Volume / Boot Volume)
-
🌐 Network (VCN, Subnet, IP)
-
🖥️ Operating System (Linux/Windows)
Instanse creation in OCI
**Step:01**
Login to the burger menu and select below option
**Step:02**
Choose the right compartment here I m using Hub_storage_and_compute_compartment and select Create instance option.
**Step:03**
Creating the server(Compute) with following steps:
- ** * Basic Information**
**Select the Name of Server**
**Select the Availability Domain:AD1**
Capacity type:On-demand capacity
FD:OCI select the FD for our instance
**Select Img: OS**
In the Image section, click Change Image. Select Oracle Linux as the image (it is free in OCI, you can select the image as per your requirement). We should choose always N-1 version (here 9)(OCI support N-4 level of support)
Select shape:RAM
- ** * Security**: Leave as it is.
- ** Networking*
- ** Storage*:Its a place where image(OS) of Server is going to store like C drive in our laptop:
Finally our MATANA server is created:
**Termination:**
Always choose this option else will be charge for this even the deletion of our instance.
Download Puttygen as per your laptop configuartion:
Upload pvt key Now save pvt key (Encrypted formate)
Go the Instance and choose Public IP to login via Putty
Paste the same in Putty
After uploading the Private key in SSH->Aut option
Will use IP and user name as per our Instance details:
Switch to root user:
TO know the OS version:
