Iteration

Last week, I built on top of the progress from the map's first iteration to fix a few issues such as limiting weapons, fixing the lava pit, adding a bit more cover, and linking the two deadends rooms. With this new iteration, I was able to conduct another playtest.

Playtest II

I gathered data from another playtest of the map with some additions done to the map. However, the playtest did not go exactly as planned. Textures were missing from the map, making it hard to distinguish obstacles, cover, and the terrain. I figured out the issue early on, but nonetheless, the test went on. The players did offer more feedback on the map by stating the need for more cover and direction in the map. They also stated some inconsistencies with the floor, the ceiling, and an abundance of empty space.

Playtest Comparison

Using the data from the previous playtest, I was able to compare the two to see any positive or negative changes in the map. This way, I can hone in on any serious issues with the map. This helped me put more focus on these areas to improve for the next playtest.

In these two examples, the rating has dropped for the map, suggesting players prefer the old map. This could be due to the lack of textures, but also the maps layout being changed attempting to fix the issue of cover. In addition, the lava pit increased the map size, encouraging more routes, but without cover, it just means more of the already abundant space. With this in mind, I was sure to add much more cover in the next iteration along with cutting off empty space.
