The Basics
When you first load up the game after installing Simply Skills, you should open your keybind settings and ensure that there are no conflicting keybinds.
By default, the skill tree interface can be opened by pressing 'K
'.
In Simply Skills, you start with a single skill tree refered to as the 'Base skill tree'
Gaining experience
To begin progressing in your skill tree, you will first need to gain some experience and earn a level. To see how much experience you need to reach the next level, you can open the skill tree and hover your mouse over the experience bar at the top.
To gain experience you will need to defeat enemies. The amount of experience you gain depends on the maximum HP of the enemy you defeated. If you attempt to defeat too many mobs in a single chunk you will trigger the anti-farm system and will no longer gain experience until you move to a different chunk.
Unlocking Skill Points
Once you have earned enough experience and gained a level, you will be able to earn your first skill point.
When investing your first skill point in Simply Skills, you will need to choose from one of three passive nodes, referred to as 'Path of the Initiate
', 'Path of the Wayfarer
', and 'Path of the Warrior
'.
Generally, it's best to pick the path that corresponds to your prefered playstyle. Know that your chosen path will not dictate your entire build, instead, it's your total combination of skill points & your chosen specialisation that will define your build and alter the way you play the game.
Spending Skill Points Wisely
The base skill tree in Simply Skills is capped at a total of 42 points, and requires careful consideration before investing into skills.
It is recommended that you carefully plan your path to your preferred specialisation, and thoroughly read skills before unlocking them. Some of them have significant drawbacks and cater to very specific styles of play, such as the 'Overload
' skill.
Unlocking a Specialisation
On the outer edges of the base tree, you will find Specilisation paths. These are denoted by a larger skill icon, and will always be located on the outermost edge of the skill tree.
At the time of writting, there are a total of 8 specialisations in Simply Skills, these are: 'Spellblade
', 'Wizard
', 'Necromancer
', 'Cleric
', 'Crusader
', 'Berserker
', 'Ranger
', and 'Rogue
'.
You can have a total of ONE Specialisation at a time, and each specialisation comes with your choice of 'Signature Ability'. For more information on Specialisations, see the Specialisations wiki page.
Making Mistakes
If you make a mistake with your build, worry not! You can refund any points you have invested in the base skill tree by using the Malevolent Manuscript item. See the Respeccing wiki page for more information.
