Revenant

There are trolls, and then there are trolls, and the revenant is here to troll you! Do not be fooled, not everything is what it appears to be.

Revenants are evil, undead spirits. By day they wander harmlessly as invisible, intangible spirits. At night they are able to materialize, taking the form of a zombie. But watch out, they are far more dangerous than zombies. They are faster, tougher, and can jump at the player, poisoning their victim with Wither II. Some revenants will also have an extra buff, randomly determined when they spawn. At dawn they dematerialize, no matter the light level.

Origin

Revenants were taken from early versions of Dungeons & Dragons, especially the "classic" D&D Companion Set which came in a little green box during the 1980's. In this version of the game revenants were the most power of a class of undead called spirits. They were so evil that all plants and small animals near by would die when they came near. Yet they looked like mere zombies from a distance. In newer game version revenants are practically a completely different creature.

Originally, revenants were dead who returned from the grave in, often for revenge on the living or pure cruelty. They slept in their graves by day and could be killed by burning their hearts. Belief in revenants was common in medieval western Europe.
