Dare to Lead Brene Brown Interview

Watch the interview

Purpose

The Dare to Lead interview with Brené Brown challenges the traditional notion that success is solely built on credibility, intelligence, and experience. Brown emphasizes that vulnerability is a crucial component of meaningful learning, especially when you don't have all the answers. As you progress through the next six weeks, remember that you will only gain as much as you are willing to risk. This program provides a safe environment where it's okay not to have all the answers, to share your struggles, and to be unpolished. Embracing vulnerability will help you grow and connect more deeply with others, ultimately enhancing your learning experience and personal development.

Questions

  • What does vulnerability look like in a professional setting, and why do you think it’s important?
  • Have you ever had a time where being vulnerable in a group led to a positive outcome? Can you share that experience?
  • How do you create trust in new environments, like a new job or team? What helps you feel comfortable opening up?
  • What fears or hesitations do you have when it comes to sharing your story with others?

Exercise: Build Your Coat of Arms

Instructions

  1. Draw Quadrants on a Sheet of Paper
  2. Use Words or Images to Describe Your Story
    • Quadrant 1: What was your life like 10 years ago?
    • Quadrant 2: What was your life like 5 years ago?
    • Quadrant 3: What is your life like now?
    • Quadrant 4: What will your life look like 5 years from now?

Purpose

The Coat of Arms exercise is designed to help you reflect on the sum of your past experiences and who you aspire to be. By narrating the influential events that have shaped your life, you can identify what makes you unique. This exercise is crucial because it allows you to articulate your personal story, which is a powerful tool in job applications and interviews. Over the six weeks, we'll revisit this exercise to connect your past experiences to your current career goals, helping you understand and communicate why you are a unique fit for the jobs you are targeting. This reflection not only builds self-awareness but also strengthens your ability to present yourself compellingly to potential employers.

Questions

  • What symbols would you include in your coat of arms to represent who you are? Why?
  • What personal values or qualities would you put in your coat of arms that guide your decisions?
  • How would you describe your career journey so far in a few words or symbols?
  • What is a challenge you’ve overcome that you would want to include in your coat of arms?
